The hurrican season has definetaley started... there has been a couple of tropical storms earlier in the month of August, but in the last couple of weeks we had Diana and Danielle and Hurrican Earl came very close to the Dominican Republic, luckily we did get nothing apart from a bit of rain and wind. The next Hurrican is named Fiona and the other one is still categorized as a tropical storm over and raging over the ocean and hopefully does not evolve into anything more.
However we had quiet a bit of excitement in the harbour. At least 20 fishing boats came from Puerto Plato into the harbour of Luperon to seek shelter. It was amazing to see when they all flocked in and tied themselves to the Mangroves. There was a real busyness in the harbour all of a sudden. Everyone was on the boat, clearing decks, tying things down and putting out a second anchor. We took our sails down, to minimize the wind catching area. Despite all the preparation when the wind started a few Dinghys got loose and a couple of boats were dragging their anchor ... nothing that could not be dealt with in time to avoid severe damage. It was a bit of an adventure for Carlos and Julia, we weaved into our school program, what is a Hurrican and how do Hurricans forms, they kept asking when is he coming ... luckily they did not experience the real thing... and I do hope that we never will.....
