Welcome on aboard SV/ JUCA

Our philosophy is to live in peace and harmony with each other and to have lots of fun doing it! We practice compassion and unconditional love and experience that there are no mistakes only stepping stones while we grow on our journey.

We have sold our house in August 2009 and moved from Mangawhai / New Zealand to Norfolk/Virginia to board our Sailing Vessel Juca in January 2010.

Juca is the name of our beautiful 60 foot Morgan, and the name is a creation of the first initials of our amazing inspiriations, Julia and Carlos.

I hope you all will enjoy reading our blog and following our travels around the Caribbean.

A trip to the waterfalls

This trip has been on our agenda for a long time and finally we had a chance to go and we took it. This trip totally exceeded my expectations. I had heard that it is worthwhile going and that it is beautiful, but I believed that we would be walking on a nice track along the river until we come to these amazing waterfalls. I was mistaken and experienced a trip of a lifetime....
We met with David and Jan and her niece Ruth at nine at Puerto Blanco. We had to take Julia and Carlos out of school for that, but I suppose that there is always room for a fieldtrip. This time all four of us sat in the back of the truck and enjoyed the ride very much. When we arrived at the Waterfalls in Llanos de Perez, we changed into our bathing clothes. Once we paid for our tickets we got a life jacket and a helmet to wear. Well that should have made me aware, that we were not just going for a walk. We had to cross over 12 streams until we finally reached the bottom of the waterfall. Here Jan and Julia stayed behind, as Jan had done it before and did not want to go again and Julia smelled the adventure well before us :) From then on we had to swim, dive, slide and climb up the waterfall, we actually worked our way up inside the waterfall... The water was cold and refreshing and we had lots of fun. There are 27 waterfalls alltogether, but we only paid to go up to number seven. Though once we reached plateau number 7, our guide made us turn around and now we had to slide and jump down the waterfalls....uuuiiiiiii..... what fun that was. Carlos had a bit of a hard time jumping and sliding down in a couple of places, but he did very well and overcame his anxiety with no problem. We were so proud of him, what an achievement for him as well as for us. When we arrived down the bottom, we were exhausted and I even was a big shaky..... but very happy. We all enjoyed a beautiful lunch afterwards and shared our exciting experiences and decided that we all wanted to do it again, but next time we are doing all 27 waterfalls....... what wonderful adventure and something to look forward to!
