Welcome on aboard SV/ JUCA

Our philosophy is to live in peace and harmony with each other and to have lots of fun doing it! We practice compassion and unconditional love and experience that there are no mistakes only stepping stones while we grow on our journey.

We have sold our house in August 2009 and moved from Mangawhai / New Zealand to Norfolk/Virginia to board our Sailing Vessel Juca in January 2010.

Juca is the name of our beautiful 60 foot Morgan, and the name is a creation of the first initials of our amazing inspiriations, Julia and Carlos.

I hope you all will enjoy reading our blog and following our travels around the Caribbean.

Sick as a dog

Just in case some of you have been wondering why I haven't written on our blog and filled you in with more news, we haven't left the boat yet and still waiting for a decision to be made by the 18th of February. Meanwhile I have been sick like a dog with a headcold. Haven't been that sick for years and with that my mind is blank. The last few days have been feeding myself with lemon, garlic and honey but making slow progress of getting better.

The survey progress was horrible and next time I would move of the boat. The surveyer went through every cupboard and has discovered things on the boat that we weren't even aware of. It felt like someone turned you inside out and poked wholes into everything that you own and are proud of. I think the worse moment was when he went up the mast and shouted down.... "the mast is broken"...the things that went through my mind at that moment were devistating, its like someone saying oh step asided, the walls of your house will drop down any minute ...and then " oh no its not broken it has been repaired" and then he stepped down to "oh no its just a bit of paint has come off" well I will let it be to your own imaginaging what you think what the potential buyer thought at that moment and how we felt.... I don't think that neither of us were impressed by that statement, thats for sure. I had cleaned the boat for a week and the surveyer did a good job of taking the boat apart and when he had finished the boat looked like a bombside and don't even think that he had put everything back, oh no... that was my job and I had to start all over.
When we took JUCA and the potential buyer for a test drive.....he made us tack every five minutes and we had to take the sails up and down and at the end of it the surveyer suggested to the guy maybe to replace the winches with electric ones. Since the potential buyer has not got a lot of experience in sailing and with that constant tacking the surveyer made us look very busy and as if it would be very hard to handle by only two people....hmmmmm.... well Sven only said to both of them that we are cruisers and not interested in racing and usually you set sails when the wind is right and then you don't take them down before you reach your destination!!
Well so much for selling our JUCA...the potential buyer has gone back to New Zealand and will let us know in a weeks time whether he wants to buy it or not....so we will wait patiently for his answer and will continue to sail around the BVI's in the meantime.....
It is nearly 5 in the morning and the panadol is slowly kicking in and I start to feel a bit better ..going back to bed to get some rest.... good night everyone until next time soon hopefully I have recovered by then.
