Welcome on aboard SV/ JUCA

Our philosophy is to live in peace and harmony with each other and to have lots of fun doing it! We practice compassion and unconditional love and experience that there are no mistakes only stepping stones while we grow on our journey.

We have sold our house in August 2009 and moved from Mangawhai / New Zealand to Norfolk/Virginia to board our Sailing Vessel Juca in January 2010.

Juca is the name of our beautiful 60 foot Morgan, and the name is a creation of the first initials of our amazing inspiriations, Julia and Carlos.

I hope you all will enjoy reading our blog and following our travels around the Caribbean.

What great fun Homeschooling can be.....

I cannot believe it but we are coming up to completing our first year of Homeschooling. Wow what an achievement and what an experience! There has been a lot of highs and challenges throughout the year, but overall I would not wanted to have missed this opportunity to homeschool Julia and Carlos. We have all learned and grown a lot from this wonderful experience, and certainly met amazing people who supported us in our learning curve. We have just finished sitting our yearly tests and this has been a bit of a shock to the system, but overall we mastered them well. Julia has improved from an below average into an average student and Carlos is in the top class ...... so we must have done something right and they have both developed into confident and outside the square thinking children.... excellent achievement!

Having the freedom to move through the subject in our own time and pace, has been very enjoyable and has made school fun. Playing games and meeting different people is a brilliant and awesome way to improve our skills in reading and counting. Different people have distinct knowledge and so each one is a great teacher in its own way and it keeps learning interesting. However having not so many children to play with is a bit of a downside and Julia and Carlos are missing their Mangawhai friends dearly. We do hope that the situation will improve a bit over the Christmas period, when we are sailing further down south towards St. Lucia.
