Welcome on aboard SV/ JUCA

Our philosophy is to live in peace and harmony with each other and to have lots of fun doing it! We practice compassion and unconditional love and experience that there are no mistakes only stepping stones while we grow on our journey.

We have sold our house in August 2009 and moved from Mangawhai / New Zealand to Norfolk/Virginia to board our Sailing Vessel Juca in January 2010.

Juca is the name of our beautiful 60 foot Morgan, and the name is a creation of the first initials of our amazing inspiriations, Julia and Carlos.

I hope you all will enjoy reading our blog and following our travels around the Caribbean.

Spring-Clean on the boat

We are having a spring clean all right. I have taken the whole boat apart and cleaning every little bits and pieces that I can find. The last couple of days we have been moving things from one side to the other and from one corner to the next. However the main reason for this spring clean has been, that we had little moths on the boat that we could not get rid of, but I have found the main source or nest if you like and have illuminated them…..nothing can stop me if I am in the right mood….I have been meaning to do this for quite a while….but you all know what it is like….. we always need a deadline to get onto something that we do not like … and our deadline is leaving Luperon and I want to leave with a clean boat, so that I do not have to do it for a while ...

That brings me to the next subject of our list, that we were finally been able to tick off…… getting the spinnaker halyard down from the mast. The children have been playing with it and have accidently pulled it up the mast…ups… we had to pull Carlos up our 65 feet high mast. We did secure him into the Boson Chair and Sven pulled him up the mast. First he was not quite sure what to think of it, but got more and more confident as he went up the mast. Once he had grabbed the line we let him down again…. When we asked him how it was he said….” Mummy, first I was bit scared, but then once I was up the top it felt like flying… can we do it again!” My brave little Carlos….. I love you so much for your brilliance…..I hope you will always keep it…….
The weather has been quiet strange lately…. Very overcast and lots and lots of rain here in the Dominican Republic, I suppose these are some of the side effects from Hurricane Tomas. Luckily he did not ended up coming through the DR as predicted, but we still had some unpleasant wind, rain and overcast skies for at least a couple of weeks ……with Hurricane Tomas we are nearly at the end of the Hurricane season and are hoping now for a weather window to escape out of Luperon soon to join our friends of SV “Happy Our” in St. John. So far this year there have been 20 Hurricanes in the Caribbean , 4 more than predicted… wow I never knew that there are so many Hurricanes moving through the Caribbean….unbelievable
